Jay Z and Justin Timberlake Innovate Facebook with video for “Holy Grail”

Jay Z Insert holy grail
Jay Z really thinks he’s a trendsetter doesn’t he?

Earlier this year, Jay Z released his highly-anticipated album Magna Carta… Holy Grailin an unconventional way and now he’s done it again with his Justin Timberlake-featuring video for “Holy Grail.”

Even though we tend to be pro-iPhone on this corner of the internet, it was awesome when Jay Z released Magna Carta… Holy Grail exclusively through the “Jay-Z Magna Carta” app. At the time he was pro-hyphen, his punctuation stance has changed since then though. The app allowed free streaming of Magna Carta… Holy Grail and was released (again, free) four days before the album’s official release date. The app release coincided with July 4th, how patriotic of Mr. Carter.

Now Jay Z is making digital history again releasing his video for “Holy Grail” on Facebook 24 hours before making it available anywhere else. We didn’t really think that Facebook was a video publishing platform up until yesterday. Apparently that’s a thing now.

The video itself is visually amazing. It’s very classic Jay Z and certainly simple. It let’s you focus on the song (which is awesome) with some complimenting visuals every here and there (instead of the tweak-it-while-you-werk-it style of videography that has been sweeping the country). It features covered furniture which adds to the aura of an all around creepy Luigi’s Mansion kind of set up.

It’s a pretty convenient release timing since Justin Timberlake is getting a lot of press after *Nsync’s little reunion at the VMA’s. After Justin Timberlake’s verse ends the song really get’s much more hyped and fun. Fire and all, so we really don’t have any complaints. The song is one of our favorites off of Magna Carta… Holy Grail. We do kind of feel like Justin Timberlake’s verse, while good, stretches on for so long you actually forget you’re in a Jay Z song, but it works out.

What do you think of Jay Z and JT’s new video for “Holy Grail?”
